Flood Insurance Repairs following Storm Babet
In October 2023, Storm Babet caused severe flooding across East Anglia. One particular property that was unfortunately badly affected was a 3-bedroom cottage which despite being at the top of a hill, suffered flooding due to surface water run-off from the surrounding farmland.
Appointed by Direct Line, Pickford Builders carried out the full flood insurance reinstatement works ensuring the property was fully restored and future-proofed against further flood risks.
Challenges
- The entire ground floor required a full strip-out and renovation
- Floors across different levels needed repairing and re-finishing
- Permanent flood protection measures had to be installed
Our Solution
Our flood damage building restoration team carried out a reinstatement and flood repair programme, which included:
- A full ground floor renovation including installing a new kitchen, shower room and utility space.
- The application of a liquid damp-proof membrance to all floors to protect the property against future flood damage.
- A complete redecoration throughout.
- External doors replaced and fitted with removable aluminium flood barriers supplied by Flood Protection Systems.
Outcome
By June 2025 the cottage was fully restored. The modern flood protection measures applied did not affect the traditional character of the home and gave future peace of mind to the owners.
